People come to therapy for all kinds of reasons. A common misconception is that something really ‘bad’ needs to have happened to you. That’s not true. There are a million reasons people might decide to try therapy. Here are some examples:
If you feel insecure and it’s getting in the way of doing things like going to a café or to the shops by yourself.
If you struggle with maintaining relationships, whether its with a friend, partner or your family.
You’re confused about who you are and what you want to do with your life.
You find yourself using coping strategies that you know aren’t helpful long term, but you just can’t seem to stop.
You belong to a marginalised community and you’re struggling because of the associated trauma.
There’s some stuff that’s happened in your life that you don’t really talk about, but you know you probably should.
You look on social media and scroll through profiles of your old school friends/peers and you feel sad about your own life.
You just need to vent!
And hopefully it goes without saying that of course, we are here to help those with diagnosed mental illnesses. If you haven’t seen what troubles you here, don’t be afraid to get in touch anyway. If we can’t help you ourselves, we’ll be sure to point you in the direction of someone/somewhere that can.
